Close the gap between KYC and the card.

Close the gap between KYC and the card.

KYC (Know Your Customer) identifies who the user is. It says nothing about whose card was just linked. That gap is where stolen-card funding, money-mule operations, and chargebacks live.

Basis Theory closes that gap with ANI/AVS. When enabled, after a card is tokenized in our vault, we ask the card networks whether the name (and address) on file with the issuer matches the identity you verified. We send you back a standardized answer you can act on.

Nothing touches your processor. Nothing appears on the cardholder statement. Nothing changes for your user.

One Endpoint, Any Processor

Acquirer-supplied ANI only covers traffic you send through that acquirer. Basis Theory runs the check at the vault layer, so the result is consistent across any processor you route to.

Passive by Design

ANI/AVS runs as a non-financial inquiry. No charge on the card, no 3DS challenge, no step for the user to see.

Cheaper than the Alternative

ANI/AVS complements document re-verification, manual reviews, and card-photo optical character recognition (OCR) processes.

Processor-Agnostic Control

Maintain one 3DS endpoint, one implementation, and one strategy layer across providers for PSP switching or debugging.

Combining Compliance with Conversion

Reduce card-not-present fraud and improve trust signals across issuers or networks to limit chargebacks.

Bundled with a Vault Integration

3DS bundled with a vault makes for a cleaner, faster path to production without brittle PSP-specific workflows or PCI scope.

Know the card owner before the money moves.

Basis Theory Card Ownership Verification checks the name and address on a card against issuer records.

Network data shows coverage growing in the United States and Europe, with ANI-matched transactions seeing 3x fewer fraud losses.
